Where do you stand? Are you in the middle, on the fringes, where Do you stand?
If tomorrow is your turn to have a serious illness is your health cared for? Do you have insurance through your job or perhaps through the job of your mate or parents? Maybe you receive medicare or medicaid, or perhaps you're like thousands of Americans who for many various reasons have no coverage at all. We have people who've worked for years and yet have no health insurance. These people are a paycheck away from disaster should they get seriously ill. As much as I'm glad to be an American I must acknowledge we still have many mountains to climb, rivers to swim, and valleys to go through. We are still very much a country of haves and have nots which in itself is not a bad thing. It's actually a good thing as long as the haves show compassion with respect for the have nots who are doing an honest days work to help the continued growth of this country and thus the growth of us all. How about it; is your health cared for and do you care about the health of your neighbor? Have a cup of java or tea and think about where we're going and what you can do to help us get there. © KC and Shortie, June 27, 2012 http://shortiesvintagetreasures.com/1/feed http://www.shortiesvintagetreasures.com http://twitter.com/#!/shortietreasure Vintage Lionel Trains Caboose How time does go by. About 10 months ago I found my Mom near death, put her on a plane and brought her home with me and to the hospital. I had visited in March and had no idea she was not well. At age 84 mother had worked until May, 2011 when school was out for summer. What I found in May was quite frightening as were the days and months that lay ahead. God is good. We were given wonderful medical staff in a terrific hospital. Doctors did not hide the fact they held little or no hope for any recovery. We finally got a diagnosis of Lymphoma and although there is no cure, at this time after finishing the second round of chemotherapy mom is in remission. The words thankful, gratitude, humbled, do not begin to describe how I feel. Times were hard, not over yet but despite the mounting bills I am thankful for the here and now. Isn't it amazing how much we can learn from adversity and trial? I know many of you know just what I'm talking about because you've either been there or are there now. Let us pray for the strength of one another. So happy to be back here at Shorties Thoughts to share with you. We invite you to stop by http://www.shortiesvintagetreasures.com/ to see what we have to offer. We would also love to hear from you and share your experiences. Shorties Thoughts © KC and Shortie, June 11, 2012 http://www.shortiesvintagetreasures.com A 1931 quote with reference to President Hoover from The Unemployed, "People expect too much of Hoover anyhow. Of what use is an engineer when the locomotive is off the track?". Sound familiar?
I am concerned about our country. How about you? Are you tired of ever increasing unemployment, wondering how far away your turn is? Are you tired of our country spending money we don't have on things outside our country when so much hurting and suffering is going on here at home? I love America, for in spite of her problems she is to date still the best place in the world to live. Question is, at the rate we are going, how long can we remain in the number one position. Our national debt is out of control. We complain about unfair wages in some other countries when we have workers here with minimum wages as low as $5.15 per hour with all the cost of supporting home and family. When your company started laying off what do you think happened to those who lost their jobs? Many of them no longer have unemployment, have not been able to secure another job, have lost their homes, families have fallen apart, lives have been lost and more. When will your company bring the pink slip to your best friend, your spouse, or you? How long can you survive without that regular paycheck. When will we stop believing the lies candidates tell to get elected when we know they only want to win at any cost. Why don't we require that one of the key qualifications candidates have is a demonstrated, proven love of our country with her best interest at heart. We need to realize before it's too late that each has his/her own agenda which Does Not include you and me. Is America Cracked? Is She Broken? Can She Save Herself? My answers to these questions and more at our next writing. What's your take on these questions? Shorties Thoughts © KC and Shortie , August 15, 2011 http://www.shortiesvintagetreasures.com We all are aware of the race to raise the debt ceiling. I say race although it seems to me no one was in any hurry to get any legislation passed as we grew ever closer to the deadline. Much of the country anxiously spent very uncertain days wondering what would happen even as the world watched us. No matter, even with all this, Congress seemed unable or unwilling to act as they played their games with the American People.
Recently as I was scanning through a vintage magazine from 1931 I came across an item which reminded me how little things have changed. Seems as though the more things have changed we have been brought full circle to that which once was and is now again. I quote this which was from the B'nai B'rith Messenger, (Los Angeles), 1931, "Congress adjoined, many have returned home to repair their Political fences. They've had lots of experience in Wire-Pulling, but may find only Post-Holes left". Come on America, let us demand that our government pay attention to us and what is best for the country rather than promoting their on agendas at our expense. What do you think about all the theatrics of our government? I suggest we get rid of all of them and start fresh with persons who have the interest of the American people foremost in their minds and hearts. © KC and Shortie, August 5, 2011 http://www.shortiesvintagetreasures.com Congratulations and Thank you to the Military of the United States of America on a dangerous job well done! Thank you Mr. President Obama, Vice President Biden, Secretary of State Clinton, and all who have been involved in this project.
We pray your wisdom and continued success in leading and defending America. America let's rally all the more around our troops and leaders as a country truly united. It is true we are at our strongest and best when we are as one. © KC and Shortie, Shorties Vintage Treasures.com http://www.shortiesvintagetreasures.com http://shortieskitchen.weebly.com/ http://shortieskitchen.weebly.com/1/feed http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shorties-Vintage-Treasures/160832290634304?sk=wall http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shorties-Vintage-Treasures/160832290634304?sk=app_137036186323012 http://www.goldenvintage.artfire.com Gee, this school year is just about over. Kids are looking forward to graduations, proms, summer vacations, summer jobs and more.
Not all students are eighteen and under. Many students today are adults, even senior citizens. Some are training in hopes of getting off unemployment, some just because they want to continue learning and school is the venue they've chosen to do so. There are students like one of my daughters who have a full time job, children at home to raise, responsibilities in her church and still is a full time student. She will walk the first week in June for her masters, and is in process of taking her CPA exams. We're so proud of her. Perhaps there's a student in your family or circle of friends of whom you feel the same pride and respect for their accomplishments. If you do, please let them know how you feel. There are so many destructive choices they could make, but they've chosen the good part. What about you? Want to go back to school? Go ahead, stop putting it off. Time doesn't wait, it keeps on moving forward and so should we. © KC and Shortie, April 28, 2011 http://www.shortiesvintagetreasures.com http://shortieskitchen.weebly.com/ http://shortieskitchen.weebly.com/1/feed http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shorties-Vintage-Treasures/160832290634304?sk=wall http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shorties-Vintage-Treasures/160832290634304?sk=app_137036186323012 http://www.goldenvintage.artfire.com |
